Members of the BuildPlane team had a great time—and learned a lot—at the recent Meet the GCs Expo, sponsored by the Subcontractors Association of Alabama. The event took place in a ballroom at the home of the Birmingham Barons minor-league baseball team, Regions Field.

The association puts on several events every year to benefit the Subcontractor community by bringing subs together with General Contractors across the state and region. Subs, GCs, and other industry professionals connected over a few drinks and common goals.

BuildPlane had a goal as well: to gain a better understanding of what software those professionals are using and how our app might help them do their work more efficiently and profitably.

Here are the key takeaways from our conversations:

  1. Construction is a heavily relational business. We knew that already, of course, but it's always good to be reminded about the importance of personal connections. Many of the subs and GCs have known each other for many years. The industry thrives on positive experiences, both between subs and GCs and between professionals and end consumers.
  2. Project Managers and Project Estimators have a tight relationship in the sub-GC relationship structure. At their booths, most of the GCs also had their estimators attending so the subs could get in front of the decision-makers.
  3. The Subcontractors Association of Alabama is a fun group of professionals who care deeply about the work they do and their industry.

This is one of the premier construction events each year. We look forward to coming back in 2021.

In the meantime, we'll be using the knowledge we collected to make our app even better at meeting the needs of construction professionals. Check out what we can do for you by requesting a demo at
